Frontiers in Interaction: The Power of Multimodal Standards

As the capabilities of mobile devices and networks increase, we are seeing a dramatic increase in the number of multimodal applications that combine speech and GUI interfaces. Furthermore, other mobile device capabilities such as accelerometers, touchscreens and biometric devices are making a wide variety of other innovative applications possible. However, coordinating all of these capabilities in an application while presenting a coherent user experience is a complex task. Standards play an important role in managing this complexity. This talk will present some of the newest standards in this area and discribe how the standards are being applied in applications.
